Overview: No HR manager has the time to become a full-fledged "futurist." But with an appropriate amount of work they can become "practical" futurists. A practical futurist is someone who understands the factors they must pay attention to in order to be prepared for dealing with the changes that will alter the structure of their companies, the nature of the work done, the structure of jobs and the type of employees that will be needed to perform that work. The attendee will be taught various methods for paying attention to trends that deal with the STEEP (Social, technological, environmental, economical and political) factors that affect every industry and company.

Why should you attend: The "future" often arrives too fast and catches human resources leaders unprepared to deal with the changes that are necessary. The changes that occur in technology, demographics, societal behaviors, the political arenas, financial practices and with environment all have a potential effect on the nature of how work is conducted in companies of all size. If you are not paying attention to these and developing potential responses to the changes then you will continue to be seen as "reactive" and not strategic. HR professionals that wish to be seen as strategic need to understand the future. The jobs and employees that will be performing those jobs may be very different five years from now and will certainly be very different 10 years from now. Without understanding these changes there will be no plan for recruiting, hiring, and training the necessary talent.

Areas Covered in the Session:
  • Engage in systems thinking and understand you mental models
  • Look back to look forward
  • Scan the environment
  • Look at the trends
